The accession of His Majesty King Charles III was proclaimed in Winchelsea on Sunday 11th September 2022
A hundred or so members of the local community gathered in Castle Street to hear the Mayor of Winchelsea, Jurat David Merrifield JP, make the Accession Proclamation. The Mayors of the Cinque Ports had been in Dover earlier in the day to hear the proclamation made by the Deputy Constable of Dover Castle on behalf of the Lord Warden, returning to their own towns to repeat the reading in the afternoon. Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex, Sarah Kowiz DL, introduced the Winchelsea ceremony.
