Hall users and representatives of the organisations who have contributed funds to the refurbishment gathered for an Open Day at Winchelsea New Hall on Saturday 9th March 2019

The Mayor of Winchelsea cut the ribbon marking the official opening of the new kitchen.  There were refreshments, displays on regular hall activities and a continuous slide show picturing all the  different ways in which the hall is used by the community

Strong winds blew over seventy visitors into the hall for our Open Day on Saturday 9th March. Attendance was particularly high in the late morning, to see the Mayor of Winchelsea, John Rodley, cut the ribbon to officially open the new kitchen.

There followed a short speech of thanks to Sussex Community Fund (on behalf of Little Cheyne Court Wind Farm) and the Rye Fund for their generous grants. The Mayor thanked Winchelsea residents for their generous donations to the cost of the kitchen refurbishment. There were thanks too to Jenny Lozano who conducted the original survey and arranged for the consultations, which resulted in our kitchen planning and its implementation. Rob Mortimer was heartily lauded for his masterminding the project and carrying out the bulk of the work himself.

Visitors were rewarded with tea and homemade cake and the chance to inspect the kitchen and the new equipment, including ovens, fridges and storage space. New cups and saucers have completely replaced the three old differing styles and will serve very well for the Open Gardens teas and other such catering events. The star of the show was the new dishwasher which swung into action. So quick that each load takes only two minutes to complete. Blink and you might miss it!

Our knockabout badminton equipment was on display. A great opportunity to keep fit after all that cake! Please visit the website winchelsea.com/new-hall to check availability of the hall. When not in use, the hall can be booked for a session at short notice.

The committee members are most grateful for the generosity and interest of supporters of the New Hall. If any residents could not attend and would like to see the kitchen please contact Carol Scoines on 01797 222772 and we can arrange a showing.
