Winchelsea has an extremely active local community. Some of the largest societies include the Winchelsea Singers (choral and light opera works), Winchelsea Garden Society (Spring and Summer shows, visits to gardens etc), Literary Society (events on Friday evenings once/month) and the Friends of the Ancient Monuments & Museum  (fund raising events, such as Cellar Tours , to support the work of the Corporation in maintaining the ancient buildings). There are Quiz nights on Tuesday evenings at 8pm in the New Inn on the first and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. In all there are 30+ societies of various sizes.
